One of the best things about downtown Breckenridge is that as soon as you arrive you are just a hop, skip, or gondola ride from endless amounts of fun. Main Street is a central hub for all the hiking to biking, the epic discovery park, mountain festivals, and activities we love. With all of these mountain adventures at your fingertips; the hardest part is deciding what to do!

Three Hikes from Main Street
The Sawmill Creek Trail: This trail starts at the base of Snowflake chairlift on Four O’clock Rd. It rises slowly uphill along a creek eventually tops out the Sawmill Reservoir with wonderful views of Breckenridge Ski Resort over the water. Take a nice stroll around the Lake or take a seat on the well place benches along the shore. Connect to the Reservoir Trail on the far side of the lake to loop back to snowflake lift.
Pence Miller to Cucumber Gulch: Head past Mountain Thunder Lodge from the Main Street and continue to the end of Mountain Thunder Dr to find the Morning Thunder Trailhead. Follow for a short time to connect to the Pence Miller trail and find your way into the woods as the trail weaves through wildflowers and groves of both aspens and pine up towards with sweeping views of Main Street and Baldy Mountain. After about one mile the trail with meet up with Shock Hill. Take a right at the T and head uphill to the Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve. Enjoy some lunch when you arrive at and take in the incredible views with the gorgeous peaks of Breckenridge Ski Resort as your backdrop. Head back to town the same way you came to get back into town.
The Burro Trail: Accessed from the Lehman ski trail just across from Beaver Run at the bottom of Peak 9. It heads uphill, over the river and through the woods with some lovely vistas, wildflowers and wetlands too. It is a classic out-and-back route so you can make it as short or long as you like as well as access additional trails to extend or vary your route. Plan for a moderate incline and give yourself time to catch your breath and enjoy the view.
The BreckConnect gondola runs free of charge from the center of town to the base of Peak 8 in both summer and winter. It’s a fun scenic ride for all ages and a great way to access more hiking trails or explore the possibilities for the whole family at Breckenridge’s Epic Discovery Park – home to a plethora of summer activities and fun including alpine slides, the Gold Runner Roller Coaster, miniature golf, zip lines and more in the summer or the Peak 8’s signature slopes in the winter.

The path to the Epic Discovery starts with a gondola ride to the base of Peak 8. As soon as you exit the gondola you will be entering Peak 8 Base Camp — home to a plethora of summer activities and fun for the whole family including alpine slides, the Gold Runner Roller Coaster, the Lil’ Climber Ropes course, miniature golf, trampolines, mazes, zip lines and more.
Ready for more? Soar up the Colorado Super Chair with a swift and scenic chairlift ride to Alpine Base Camp. The views alone will take your breath away and there is even more to explore at the top of the mountain. Alpine Base Camp is home base for a variety of hiking trails, guided hikes, a climbing wall and the environmentally-inspired Alpineer Challenge Course too. It is also the meeting place for Expedition Zipline Tour if you are ready to fly high above the forest floor at the Independence Outpost.

The Summer and Fall season is a time for celebration in Breckenridge and the event calendar is stocked with festivals, big events and lots of fun all season long. Main Street comes alive during the many parades, festivals, races and cultural events.
Biking Fun
Bikes of all shapes and sizes and an integral part of our mountain town paradise. An expansive network of mountain bike trails is easily accessible right from the center of town and a paved bike path that extends to Frisco, Vail and beyond runs right along the Blue River. If road biking is your sport of choice you can tour around Lake Dillon or even head up the classic Loveland Pass route.
The mountain biking in Breckenridge is considered some of the best in the world, beloved by locals and visitors alike, well maintained and well mapped out. The best part of the trail system is that you can choose your our adventure, distance and difficulty by looping and connecting multiple trails for a variety distances and variations. Head to Carter Park to climb the famous switch backs and connect to the vast network of mountain biking trails from a central location.
If you prefer to pedal on the smooth surface of the bike path, head south on the Blue River Bikeway towards Frisco. Refuel with some lunch and then head back this way or hop on the Summit Stage (limited bike carrying space available) to get back into Breckenridge. Mountain Wave also offers a Vail Pass shuttle giving you the option to cruise 15 miles down for a pick up in Frisco or 25 miles all the way back to Breckenridge.
