Toddler Activities in Breckenridge
Living in a toddler’s world is exhilarating, hilarious and sometimes a bit exhausting. Breckenridge is a magical place of endless adventures and exploration. There’s so much for tiny tikes to learn, touch, feel and experience. Use this list of toddler activities to keep your kiddos happy—and see if you can keep up!
Summer Exploring
The Sapphire Point Overlook Trail near Breckenridge is an easy one-mile loop with incredible views of the Ten Mile Range and Lake Dillon. Toddle around the mellow path and watch for friendly squirrels along the way. The 1.5-mile Sawmill Trail runs along a creek, gently climbing through thick forest and eventually leading to the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center Reservoir.
Playgrounds and picnic areas are smartly scattered around Breckenridge, making for an easy pop in and play in between activities. Don’t miss the new nature-based River Park and Playground along the Blue River north of town and the High Line Railroad Park Playground where a real Engine No. 9 train, boxcar and interpretive signs make for a cool learning experience. Visit a Tom’s Baby replica at Prospector Park- rub the gold nugget for good luck, and head to the Edwin Carter Museum while you’re there!
In the summer months, Breckenridge Ski Resort transitions into a mountain full of fun. Epic Discovery (formerly known as the Peak 8 Fun Park) offers interpretive hiking trails and a rock climbing wall, bungee trampoline, roller coaster, alpine slide, scenic chairlift rides, maze, summer tubing and gemstone panning. Summer camp and childcare are also available at the resort.
The Mountain Top Explorium is fantastic for toddlers. The free children’s museum off main street is full of indoor activities and exhibities for children 1-10 years of age. You and your child can explore, experiment, and do all kinds of learning and play-based activities.
Walk or bike the paved Blue River Rec Path and follow the river by the Breckenridge Recreation Center into town. Be sure to stop by the Riverwalk Lawn for cartwheels and somersaults, and then visit the Blue River Plaza for a toddler sandbox and mini play area.

Winter Wonders
Starting kiddos on the slopes early is a blast for them and you! Breckenridge Ski Resort offers lessons beginning at three years old, as well as a great mix of beginner runs that are easily accessible. from the main base areas, Family lessons with a private instructor are a great way to zip around the resort and progress together.
Rent skates, grab a handy red walker to help with balance and hit the rink at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena all year-long! Call ahead for open skate times.
Sledding at Carter Park on the south end of town is a favorite free winter pastime. Bring your own sled (purchase one at City Market or Food Kingdom on Ridge Sreet) and ride tandem with your smallest ones—this long, squeal-worthy hill is legit. Maybe a snowball fight will break out too!
Breckenridge’s Scenic Snowcat Tour is a memorial scenic tour that everyone in the family can go on. This is perfect for extended families, families with young children, and anyone who’d like to sit back, relax and enjoy a tour through Breckenridge’s trail system.
All-Season Fun
The free BreckConnect Gondola runs year-round (minus a few weeks in the off-seasons) and can be a great way to see town from a new perspective. Little ones love the blast-off sensation of soaring over Cucumber Gulch Wildlife Preserve and up to Peaks 7 and 8 of Breckenridge Resort. Look for elk and moose below!
The South Branch Library is a wonderful spot to catch popular interactive storytimes and to read and play in the dedicated tot room.
The Breckenridge Recreation Center’s indoor kids playground is tons of fun with specially designed soft climbing features for the littlest family members. The heated indoor pool offers a shallow splash area and a basket of pool-safe toys, as well as the Summit Plummit water slide for the bigger kids. There’s also weekend bouncy castle drop-in time in the gymnasium.

Pan for gold, pet the burros, head underground and take a mining tour at Country Boy Mine and then hike around the historic Sallie Barber mining site. This family favorite is open year round and is a perfect rainy day activity!
Let your toddler’s creative side shine. Head to the BreckCreate arts district on the second Saturday of each month for free hands-on arts and crafts workshops. Children of all ages are welcome with a parent or guardian present. Call on the Frosted Flamingo mobile art studio for a private party where toddlers can decorate their own hats and costumes.
A walk down Main Street Breckenridge is always a hit. Hop on and off the free Main Street trolley, pop into toddler-approved shops like Fuzzywigs Candy Factory for gummy worms and Peak-A-Boo Toys, who pride themselves on stocking harder-to-find, unique, retro and nostalgic toys you probably as a kid. Check out skee-ball, Pac-Man and tons of other games while you wait for your pizza and wings in the arcade at Downstairs at Eric’s.
