If you are heading on vacation to destress and relax from the everyday, creating a self-care itinerary will help you to make the most of your time away. Plan to prioritize self-care, rejuvenation and wellness Here are five ways to slow down, relax, and prioritize self-care while in Breckenridge.
1. Spend More Time Outside
Adventure is good for the soul. Plain and simple. Whether it’s heading outside for your favorite activity or trying something new, there are plenty of reasons to head outside in Breckenridge. Ring in the New Year by discovering new trails, taking a lesson, or booking a guided tour that’s sure to get your heart pumping. Plus, with Colorado boasting over 300+ days of sunshine a year, it’s easy to embark on an exciting outdoor adventure in Breckenridge year-round. On vacation, indulge in all the sunshine and crisp mountain air we can get while enjoying the top winter activities in Breckenridge. And if we’re feeling ambitious, we’ll do a few of the best winter workouts too.
2. Create Lasting Memories
We all know the feeling when we work too hard and get disconnected from the things that truly make us happy. So this year, our goal is to spend more time doing the things we love with the people who bring the biggest smiles to our face. We’re ensuring there’s plenty of together time by taking some extra vacation time this year – because who doesn’t want to feel more connected, fresh and content when they return back home?
We think 2020 is the perfect time to create new family traditions and once in a lifetime experiences in the mountains. Celebrating time together isn’t the only benefit of vacationing. In multiple surveys conducted by Forbes, the benefits of taking vacation time include higher productivity at work, greater employee retention, better workplace morale, and even significant health benefits. Taking vacation time reduces stress and anxiety, which boosts mental and physical health. Less stress means a healthier heart (which is linked to a decrease in heart disease- the number one killer in the U.S.) and improvement of mental health, positive emotions and lowered depression, as reported by NPR. Our bosses should basically be pushing us out the door. Spring Break anyone?

3. Learn Something New
This is teh trip to step out of your comfort zone. Whether it be hopping on that intimidating-looking snowmobile, discovering that pottery is your new calling, or falling out of a funky arm balance in a yoga class, Breckenridge is the perfect place to start.
Breckenridge is the perfect place to try out a new sport, hobby, or experience. Our historic arts district offers drop-in art classes for all levels. Try throwing pottery in a ceramics class, test your skills in woodworking, or even solder some jewelry in a metal-smith class.
Breckenridge is also home to nearly an endless list of winter activities. Thankfully, the town is filled with guided services and lessons to help you discover new ways to hit the trail, explore the backcountry, perfect your turns, learn yoga or even perfect your cast.
We recommend checking the activity you’ve been dying to learn off your to-do list early so you can enjoy it all year round.
4. Do good
Now is the perfect time to start doing our part in making the world a better place. This isn’t a go big or go home kinda goal. The little things make a difference too.
Ditch the rental car.
With shuttles available from Denver International Airport, you can make your way up to the mountains with no stress in whatever weather Colorado throws at you. Once you’ve made it to Breckenridge, it’s easy to go carless with the free bus systems, Free Ride (around Breckenridge) and Summit Stage (all over the county). Many of the hotels offer free transportation to and from downtown, and Uber, Lyft and Taxis are also available.
Rethink. Reduce. Rejoice.
We’re determined to make sure our favorite mountain town is around for your kid’s kid’s kid. Join us in our efforts by:
- Saying No To Straws – Breckenridge is a straw free community (on mountain and in town), straws are only served upon request.
- Ditching Plastic Bags – Breckenridge charges 50 cents per plastic bag to try and discourage usage. Avoid the fee and help the environment by using your own tote bag or picking up a “Breck Bag” as a souvenir.
- Pick-up After Yourself and Your Pet – It’s true- Breckenridge is one of the most dog-friendly places you’ll go! But it’s only fun if everyone picks up after their pet. Make sure your cleaning-up after yourself and your pet in-town and on the trails. It’s easier than ever to remember to leave no trace!

5. Make Room For Self-Care
It’s about time self-care became a trend! Let’s all take some time to slow down, relax, and take care of ourselves a little more this year. If you typically struggle at taking a little me time, Breckenridge might be the perfect spot to start. You’re on mountain time after all. There are plenty of spas to relax tired muscles, yoga classes to rejuvenate the mind, and plenty of local businesses that have embraced Hygge, the Danish notion of getting cozy. Take home a few of our made in Breckenridge goods to continue the inner focus and cozy vibes.
